The NY Times reported that FEMA is announcing the dates it will shut down/clear-out FEMA trailer parks across the Gulf Region. While a schedule will provide some form of “notice,” Gulf Coast residents deserve to know exactly where they’re going to be relocated… and they should be consulted in this process.

“We’re with them every step of the way,” said Diane L. W. Perry, a spokeswoman for the agency here, who added that no one will be forced out of a trailer without a home in which to live.

If we can take that statement at face value, FEMA should have no problem disclosing a detailed plan for how and where they plan to move individuals and families from each trailer they plan to “clear out.”

Furthermore, while the formaldehyde issue may have expedited this new trailer-clearing initiative, perhaps those suffering the negative health effects of the formaldehyde should be prioritized first.
